What is Peppol in Oman?

Peppol is an international network and set of specifications, governed by OpenPeppol, for exchanging electronic business documents through access points. Oman's variant uses the PINT OM Billing and PINT OM Self-Billing specifications, in UBL 2.1 syntax, and the Oman Tax Data Document for reporting to the Tax Authority.

What Peppol is

Peppol is a network and a common set of rules for sending invoices and other business documents electronically. Instead of building a connection to every trading partner, each business works through an access point — a service provider that sends and receives documents on its behalf in an agreed format.

The specifications are published by OpenPeppol. For Oman, they are collected on the Oman section of the Peppol documentation site.

How documents move

Access points and the five corners

In Oman's model, the supplier (corner 1) and the buyer (corner 4) each use their own service provider (corners 2 and 3). The supplier's provider validates and sends the document; the buyer's provider receives and delivers it. The Oman Tax Authority is the fifth corner and receives the tax data (OTA FAQ).

Messages between access points are signed and encrypted in transit, and each provider is responsible for the documents it handles.

  • You connect once, to your own provider
  • Your provider handles format, validation and delivery
  • The Tax Authority receives the data it needs

Peppol questions

Is Peppol the same as Fawtara?

No. Fawtara is the Oman Tax Authority's e-invoicing programme and portal; Peppol is the international network and specification framework the programme's exchange model is built on.

What is PINT-OM?

The Oman variant of Peppol International (PINT): PINT OM Billing for invoices and credit notes and PINT OM Self-Billing for self-billing transactions, both in UBL 2.1.

Do I need my own access point?

Most businesses do not run one. They work through a service provider that operates the access point for them. Invoice And Tax is a Peppol-certified Access Point Service Provider.

What is the Tax Data Document?

The report, specified by OpenPeppol for Oman, that carries invoice data to the Tax Authority — the fifth corner.
