E-invoicing in Oman
When does e-invoicing become mandatory in Oman?
Under Decision 189/2026 (Official Gazette No. 1660, 9 August 2026): 1 April 2027 for taxable persons with annual supplies above OMR 5 million, and 1 October 2027 for all other taxable persons.
Did e-invoicing become compulsory in August 2026?
No. Older material described a schedule starting in August 2026, but the gazetted Decision sets the mandatory dates in 2027. August to October 2026 has been reported as a voluntary and pilot period.
What is Fawtara?
Fawtara is the Oman Tax Authority's e-invoicing programme and portal. It is the national programme, not a commercial product.
What is the five-corner model?
The supplier and the buyer each work through a service provider, and the Tax Authority receives the invoice data as the fifth corner. See the Oman e-invoicing guide.
Which format do Omani e-invoices use?
OpenPeppol publishes PINT OM Billing for invoices and credit notes and PINT OM Self-Billing, both in UBL 2.1, together with the Oman Tax Data Document.
How do I know which providers are licensed?
Decision 189/2026 provides that the Oman Tax Authority announces the companies licensed to provide e-invoicing services. Rely on the OTA's own announcements.
VAT
What is the VAT rate in Oman?
The standard rate is 5% of the taxable value, under the VAT Law (Royal Decree 121/2020), which has applied since 16 April 2021.
When is a VAT return due?
Within 30 days after the end of the tax period. Returns are filed through the Oman Tax Authority's e-services portal.
What is the difference between a credit note and a debit note?
A credit note reduces the amount of an earlier invoice; a debit note increases it. Both should reference the original document.
Does Invoice And Tax file VAT returns?
No. Invoice And Tax helps you prepare and review your VAT return figures with maker/checker approval. You file the return through the OTA's portal.
Product
Which documents can I issue?
Tax invoices, credit notes, debit notes, self-billing invoices and self-billing credit notes. Issued versions are kept as frozen snapshots.
How are documents validated?
Each document is checked against versioned, deterministic business rules and Schematron conformance checks before transmission. The same input always gives the same result.
Is the product available in Arabic?
Yes. The interface is available in Arabic and English, with a right-to-left layout in Arabic.
Can I record supplier invoices?
Yes. Record and manage supplier invoices, and follow accounts-payable ageing.
What does the assistant do?
An optional, read-only assistant that answers questions about your own invoices, settlements and reports in plain language — every answer shows its sources and scope. It cannot create, change or export data. Enabled per organisation by an administrator.
Integration
Do I need an ERP?
No. You can import Excel or CSV files or enter documents manually. ERP connection is optional. See Excel import.
Is there an API?
Yes. A versioned REST API under /api/v1/ with organisation-scoped API keys, an OpenAPI 3.1 specification, a Postman collection and a quick-start guide. See the API page.
Which connection methods are supported?
The connector framework supports REST/JSON, SOAP/XML, OData, GraphQL, SFTP, direct database, a local agent and manual upload, in cloud, private-cloud, on-premises, desktop or hybrid deployments.
Do you integrate with Zoho Books?
Connect Zoho Books to bring supported invoice data into Invoice And Tax through a tested, operational integration workflow. Availability and configuration depend on the customer's organization, permissions and agreed mapping.
Security
How is access controlled?
Through role-based access control. Multi-factor authentication is available for every user and mandatory for administrators.
Is my data kept separate from other organisations?
Yes. Data is isolated per organisation and branch, and sensitive fields are encrypted at rest.
Is there an audit trail?
Yes. Actions are recorded as append-only audit events showing who did what and when. See Security.
